The UK is BURSTING with amazing places, people and things to do. Having a Great British adventure this summer? With Treasure Hunt York you’ll see some of the best bits, and hidden gems that York has to offer. Whether you’re travelling for miles or minutes, grab your shipmates and keep reading!
With so much to see in York it can be hard to make sure you’re not missing out. Our routes have been cleverly designed and playtested to guide you to the best spots, from tourist highlights to local hangouts, you and your crew are sure to uncover some real treasures.
It’s designed for adults, so you’ll have a laugh together. If you’re adventuring with a large crew, we recommend splitting into smaller groups and seeing who can solve the final clue first! (after a few refreshment breaks along the way of course!) Captain Bess, our bossy pirate leader, sends cryptic clues, and treasure maps to your phone, shipmates work together to solve the clues and discover the next part of the journey. Ages 8+ are welcome too if you want to make a family day of it!

Whether you’ve lucked out and the sun is shining on fair York, or the rain is dampening play, fear not! Treasure Hunt York takes you past some excellent pubs and cafes, you can stop whenever you want to, grab a drink and cool down (or dry off! ☔) There’s no need to rush, take your time and enjoy it, grab some selfies, go viral on tik tok- you’ve got time!
As well as the best hidden gems, the route goes round some of the must-see sights of York including:
Museum Gardens - home to medieval abbey ruins and a gorgeous green space.
Bootham Bar - a 11th century city gate and originally part of the Roman fortress.
York Minster - one of the world’s most magnificent cathedrals, it speaks for itself!
Holy Trinity Church - a glimpse of the medieval world, hidden in a small leafy churchyard!
Dean’s Park - a peaceful garden in the shadow of the Minster and home to the Cathedral Library.
Barley Hall - you’ll discover a fine snickelway called Coffee Yard, passing this beautiful medieval hall.
The Shambles - a medieval street with timber-framed buildings so close together you could pass things across!
Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate - one of the smallest streets in York!
Merchant Adventurers’ Hall - a stunning medieval Guildhall.
Fossgate - you’ll end your adventure in the trendiest area, with decent coffee, vegan baking of course some fine pubs.
By the end of the game, you’ll have unearthed the treasures of York and know which areas you’d like to come back to.
