Think this is just another Easter egg hunt in York? Think again.

Most Easter egg hunts are for kids.

This one? It’s for you.

Treasure Hunt York turns your long weekend into an adventure — packed with cryptic clues, hidden corners, and maybe a quick pub stop along the way.

Whether you’re local or just visiting, it’s a fun excuse to get outside, stretch your legs, and discover some parts of the city you’d usually walk straight past.

Four days off is a gift — and whether the weather plays nice or not, this is the kind of plan that works either way. Coat or T-shirt, boots or sunglasses… just round up your mates and get yourselves into town.

You'll see the main sights like York Minster but the real fun is solving the clues and spotting interesting details right there in the street.

How does it work? ☠️

Simple. You and your team follow a trail of clues across the city, using your phones as a guide. The clues are sent by Captain Bess — your mildly bossy (but oddly charming) pirate captain — and you’ll need to keep your eyes peeled to spot the answers in the world around you.

It takes around 1½–2½ hours, but there’s no rush. Stop for a coffee. Pause for a pint. Take a detour if something catches your eye. That’s all part of the fun.

Not in York this Easter?

No worries — we’ve got treasure hunts running all over the UK. If you’re off on a city break, check out the full list of locations and pick one that fits your plans.

It’s a great way to get your bearings in a new place — better than another tourist bus or wandering aimlessly in search of decent coffee.

“We thought the clues were pitched at the correct level, not too easy and made you look very closely at your surroundings, without being impossible to solve.
We had a fun day exploring York with a few pit stops for refreshement between clues.”
